Counselling helps with a wide range of challenges that we all face in our daily lives. Whether you find yourself striving for a goal but unable to motivate yourself, bumping up against past traumas, or generally feeling a lack of motivation and enthusiasm for life, I can help you find your way back.
I am interested in helping people get past the things that are holding them back from living a fulfilled life. These range from self-limiting beliefs, to daily setbacks and life traumas. I am forward thinking and strive to help you remove what may be blocking you while helping you formulate the most fulfilling way forward. We work with the past as much as much as needed to get you moving towards what you most desire. Sometimes it’s those childhood experiences that taint how we view the world today and rectifying those views can mean the difference between struggling and thriving. I want to help you get what you need, and move forward as soon as possible using some of the following techniques (among others).
I have trained in Positive Psychology, which is essentially the study of how people live a fulfilled and happy life. I use this information with clients to help them find what makes them happy and build more of that into their daily routines and goals. We work together to identify strengths and find new, innovative ways to capitalize on them.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is another well researched modality that is very forward looking and seeks to help clients overcome unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, while changing their behaviours and the way they interact with the world around them. It uses concrete activities to help empower the client to make the changes necessary to achieve their desired life.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT combines CBT with mindfulness based meditative practice shown to relieve depression and anxiety. This modality is especially effective in dealing with stress and related depression. It is focused on becoming more aware of the present moment, where you have control to affect real change (as opposed to yesterday or tomorrow).
Ego State Therapy
Ego state therapy focuses specifically on the different parts of our ‘selves’. It can be likened to the masks or roles we play in life and how we manage those different roles. It helps clients to recognize their different roles, how they behave in each and which are helping vs hurting. An example may be how our behaviour with parents varies from our behaviour with spouses or our behaviour as adults is guided by our ‘childlike’ mind. This work is especially helpful is cases of childhood neglect, abandonment or trauma.
Solutions Focused Brief Therapy
I have been working with Solutions focused therapy for over 5 years now and have found that it can be the push many need to get moving in the right direction again. I love that it is brief and allows us to focus on moving forward instead of getting stuck in the past.
EMDR – Trauma Therapy
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization, Redirection (EMDR). EMDR is a well researched, process of re-processing past traumas in a way that allows you to let go of the intense feelings that come with the memories. It is a non-evasive technique that allows you to process trauma without having to relive it. It is a wonderful modality to help several concerns that may be standing in the way of the life you most desire, and deserve.
We all deal with life’s challenges differently and I want to help you find the ideal coping mechanisms for your particular life’s challenges. Your happiness is my goal!
